The breathtaking sights of the Haba and Yulong Mountains. Cutting them in the middle is the Yangtze River. The river canyon of the mighty Yangtze is called the "Tiger Leaping Gorge" because, long long ago, tigers have supposedly jumped across the gorge to the other side of the river.

And Wiki says that the Tiger Leaping Gorge of the Yangtze is contending to become the world's deepest river canyon. The bad news is, the Chinese government is pushing to dam the river. This means; unpleasant and unjust displacement of the Naxi and Tibetan ethnic groups inhabiting the area, unforgivable environmental damage and the massive destruction of thousands of cultural heritage sites. Ugh!
A man and his horse resting along the ancient Tea-Horse trail that parallels the river. I think the trail is called "Tea horse" because long long ago, that arduous and steep trail was used to transport tea by horse or mule. Romantic, is not it? he he.
Holy cow, what an extremely serious looking rockies you are.
This gorge stretches up to 15 kilometers and is unnavigable, you have to float if you want to sail through it. According to Wiki, four rafters in the early 1980s, attempted to go down the gorge and were never seen again, so beware!
Yes, a tiger had supposedly jumped across this frothing rapids to the other side. Now how true is that? We don't know, and it's not our business to meddle with fierce old tales.

Great blog and photos from the Gorge. The latest is that the gorge isn't going to be dammed. Just places further downstream.
